Hot And Dry (Very Dry) In My Garden...

Honestly I am going to be very surprised to see what survives in my garden this summer...

We have seen barely any rain in weeks and the plants are showing the stress of being exposed to above 90 degree weather for days on end without a spit of moisture in the air.

Some Morning Glory Vines (and a possible cucumber in there somewhere...) get morning sun, and afternoon shade, so they may be ok...

The Hydrangea are getting hit hard. I think all those blooms are just too many for the plants to deal with, even with almost daily watering... And they are on the North East Side of the house, which means they get a bit of the late afternoon sun.

Can I just say that our nice green lawn is quite an unpleasant crispy brown...

I wonder if "drought" is being passed around yet...
Should be sometime soon I would imagine...

Oh, and make sure to check out my Etsy shop for some of my new glaze cutout flower pendants...
I have 5 of 8 new glazes up on there (RootBeer, Twilight, Key Lime, Stormy Sea, Sedona). Still have to come up with names and actually glaze some pieces for the other 3 new translucent glazes...

If you happen to want one but as a finished necklace, I can do that too... I have lots of silks on my website and can put a bail on the pendant for you too.

I'm a dabbler - Especially when it's SO hot out...
Gotta keep busy in the studio being inspired by the garden and hope for the best for the actual plants enduring the heat...

  1. Oh here's hoping you get some rain for your garden! That poor hydrangea! I see you nasturtiums are out, here they are just starting to poke up. Have a great day and keep cool!

  2. You've been too dry and I have been getting way too much rain. I guess there is never a happy medium. Even though your hydrangeas look dry they still look pretty. Happy gardening!

  3. Your photographs are lovely! I have read that a hydrangea can look wilted in the afternoon, but as long as it comes back to looking normal when the temperature cools off in the evening, it should be fine. If it stays looking wilted, it definitely needs some water. Mine look wilty when the hot afternoon sun hits them this time of year, but they usually come back okay later in the day.

Where I am, today is our first day of the season hitting 90 degrees!

  4. I love hydrangeas. We often get hot summers (though this year is a definite exception so far) and our neighbors, who have gorgeous hydrangeas, have a tent over theirs to protect them from the worse of the hot sun.

  5. It must be dry for your hydrangea to look like that with daily watering! Eek. The rest of your garden doesn't look too bad, though. Thanks for sharing at the Tuesday Garden Party. :-)
